One of the things I love about winter is getting out of the cold weather to snuggle with teeny tiny newborn babies. I picked up some new baby wraps and accessories to make the newborn sessions just a little more special. This pink cashmere is one of my favorites...and this baby girl sure seemed to think it was ok. :)

This little one was not due to be born for a couple more weeks. She was born at 31 weeks after a very difficult pregnancy. Her mama is so kind and patient and has such an amazing attitude, even after her difficult delivery. Isn't she sweet??? 6 pounds of pure love!

She slept *really* well for the session. When she woke up, I captured her cute little newborn personality and baby blue eyes.

Is she giving me the peace sign in that last image?!

What better way to close 2009 than with this, completely adorable, 6 month old baby girl? As you know, 6-9 months is my FAVORITE age of all time for photographs. So real, so delightful with a tiny glimpse into their little personality. I have so many favorites from this session! Enjoy!!!

Some of you may recognize this sweet little boy. I photographed him for the March of Dimes this summer. He was on this years March of Dimes, Signature Chef's Auction poster! I had the opportunity to photograph his whole family again and let me tell you...there is something very special about this little boy. He creates an abundance of calm and love just by being in his presence.

At the end of the session, J's daddy played the guitar. It's a ritual they have almost every evening. I held back the tears as I was shooting. This family really knows how to truly be thankful and cherish every moment.

I am so very thankful for my clients, especially the children, who teach me *so* much about kindness and love. Truly, thank you.

So many of you are asking about the blog, thank you! It's not that I haven't been busy, it's just that I have been, you know, a little *too* busy with fall clients. My blog has fallen behind, but that's ok. That is a good problem to have, don't you think? It sure makes me happy!

It's Senior Grad season! ...and crunch time for fitting in a few more weeks of summer fun! It's been so much fun meeting the graduates, making their sessions unique and hearing about all of their exciting plans after high school. Miss 'K' and I had a blast and even dodged a few rain showers. They came out of nowhere (again) and caught us without umbrellas. (what's the deal with this weather anyway?!)

You know that none of my locations are a secret, right? My biggest secret is that I love nearly any location including your own backyard. In fact, I wouldn't be opposed to taking photographs in a parking ramp or near a pile of rubble or even on a farm with live animals (oh wait, I've done all of those!). HA! Matching individuals to a location that fits their personality is the most important piece of the location puzzle! Besides a few shots in canal park, the rose garden was without-a-doubt THE perfect location for Miss K!

I spent the morning with the L family to capture their little boy's one year milestone. Considering they are away from home and mom & dad were a bit tired, little "G" did great. We even managed to get 3 outfit changes! We had a nice morning walk with so many little things for him to discover. I bet he is napping *really* well this morning!

Tonight's senior session with 'M' was rained out after a short time, so we rescheduled. We did manage to get a few shots in before the rain.

Last summer, this little guy was BUSY and FAST! This year I was once again prepared for his speed and a good, fun chase...when he completely surprised me by showing how much he had grown up since last year! He had *me* totally giggling at his cute personality...

Adventures with Miss 'L'

I first met Miss L exactly one year ago. Her family came all the way from Chicago and invited me to capture their sweet little girl at their family cabin in the north woods...

Miss L grabbed her pole and was off to catch some fish...

Fishing is a LOT of work and requires a serious snack break...

Miss L is a sweet lil' social butterfly! After snack, she decided it was a good idea to go for a walk. We found some daisies...

Then it was time for me to go and for Miss L to cool off in her swimsuit...

Let 'wedding season' begin!

This sweet couple had a beautiful spring wedding at the Copper Top Church. The wind graced us with her wild presence, but otherwise a pretty nice day in May!

The season seems to have arrived early this year...or maybe it just feels that way given the timing of our new baby boy's arrival. We are discovering a new 'ebb & flow' to life and it's pretty sweet! He enjoys sitting on my lap or playing next to my feet while I process images.

Sweet Baby Mini-Sessions!

Introducing sweet baby mini-sessions! These limited-availability sessions will be offered on Saturday March 7th at our studio loft.

A mini-session is for you if you've recently had a session with Nicole Marie but would love new images to mark a milestone, but aren't quite ready for a full custom session yet. Or perhaps you've been meaning to try a Nicole Marie Photography session but just haven't gotten around to it. Or maybe you're a friend of a client who wants to get a small taste of what it's all about. Or maybe you just want a few gorgeous images of your baby. While our mini-sessions cannot compare to the completely custom experience of a full session, they are perfect for any of these situations.

These limited availability sessions will be announced on Monday in our newsletter, so if you are a blog reader, you have a good chance of getting a spot! If you are interested, just e-mail or call me. If you'd like to be added to the newsletter mailing list, just let me know!

Hello Friends!!!

Whoa, it's been a loooong time since I have blogged! I knew it had been a while...but where did the time go??!

Let me start by saying I met a ton of great people in 2008 and I am so thankful for each and every one of my clients that trusts me with their memories! I have been so blessed. Thank you!!!

After over a year of mystery pain, I finally had surgery this past fall, but I am so thankful now...because I feel amazing!!! I find myself bouncing everywhere as if my shoes were on springs. Photographing Children? Must. Have. Energy! YEA!

There is more good news. I feel so amazing, I am ready to enjoy another day of photographing sweet little babies...non-stop...all day long! In studio mini sessions for babies 4 months to 18 months will be announced in a few minutes.

It's no secret that I have fallen a bit behind. Just the volume of emails and voicemails that I have been receiving everyday is a little overwhelming. Please bear with me as I do my best to return emails and voicemails, deliver prints and proof galleries ASAP. I was sailing along until a couple of weeks ago when my son got sick, then I caught the same thing...back to back. I have been playing quite the game of catch-up. I'm running two computers simutaneosly right now, no joke!

Anticipating a little more wiggle room for myself in September, I will be reducing my schedule just a tiny bit (in case of life's inevitable happenings). To help get everyone in during fall colors I am offering a special day of shortened mini-sessions (shorter sessions, sweet deal) at the park. Seems all of my inquiry's lately are about fall color sessions! Details next week!

Here is a session from last fall, taken October 12th. This was literally one of the last trees left with any color on it, and although looks are deceiving, there were only leaves on about 5% of the tree. Ideal fall color time is mid-September through the first week in October. Of course, this varies year to year.

We had so much fun capturing these images! 'K' had such a fabulous personality, she was up for anything and brought tons of colorful clothing. She even held her composure in front of many, MANY people at some of my favorite locations. We had to reschedule her original session because of the last 50 degree summer evening a couple of weeks ago, and it was still a bit chilly for a summer July evening, but not too terrible. I don't have to tell you how adorable she is...

A step back in time.

This is a fabulous family from Chicago who just started a yearly tradition of photographing their daughter at their lake cabin up north. The cabin is *REALLY GREAT*! It's like taking a step back in time, no running water, black and white TV, linens from the 50's... It was built from scratch by Grandpa. Check out a glimpse of the green chair... (and the lucky little girl who gets to experience this piece of family history time and time again).

Not all expecting mom's get in front of the camera when they are busy growing a new life in their belly...but the ones that do never regret it. Pregnancy is no doubt one of the most amazing miracles on earth. I can't imagine living in the era where pregnancy was ugly or something that made you look the other way. My grandmother tells me there was such a time. Can you imagine? I just cannot imagine!! Too many women are unable to experience such a miracle and if/when they finally do, it's a big deal! I was blessed myself with one miracle pregnancy and I did my best to treasure every minute, even the labor. Labor was, afterall, just more than one short day (37.5 hours to be exact) out of my entire life. I was just lucky to have experienced it AT ALL, not everyone gets that opportunity. So even if you decide not to document it professionally, do yourself a favor and capture it in snapshots! It can't hurt! :-)

Yesterday morning after I got dressed, my 3 year old son looked at me and said with a gasp "Mommy, you look like a princess!!!!!!". Considering I'm feeling like a blob and none of my clothes are fitting, I'll take it. Complete motivation! Must.shed.pounds.now.

So this morning I did my little supermodel walk after I got dressed, thinking I was all cute again (at least to a 3 year old). He looks at me and says “do you know where my little singer is?”. I said, “Mommy’s all dressed!”. He stops, looks me up and down and says “I see that”.

I love the honesty that comes out of the mouths of babes!

I'm back home and refreshed! We met so many great people during our travels, even if they couldn't help but chuckle just a teeny bit under their breath at the way we talk. :-P

Our beach umbrella didn't blow away this year but I do think our sunscreen was expired.

A Little Escape

Growing a Baby

The EPT finally shows a + sign after years of hoping and waiting. You swear you will be forever grateful and are determined to enjoy every second of this 'growing a baby' thing. All day naseau hits, but you hope it's temporary. Hoping to gain a few pounds, you find yourself losing it. 12 weeks comes and it seems every passerby who watches you struggle to keep your lunch down suggests crackers. At 14 weeks you are told over and over again that you shouldn't be sick anymore (smile and nod). 18 weeks... you accept the fact that you are growing a parasite and you won't get better until he is out. 22 weeks...still sick. 26 weeks...still sick. 29 weeks... you attend to your own babyshower and end up catching a cold that turns into bronchitis, you lose another 5 pounds and end up getting fluids at the hospital. 30 weeks... since your only instinct is survival, the nesting instinct is transferred to your husband (finally, a small bonus).

31 weeks... (yup, still sick) we photograph this journey because you will only be pregnant once.

Spring Fever Anyone?!

What's really great about photographing children in their own homes besides really cool, magazine style images?! A chance to roam, a chance to capture kids being kids and just when you think the fun is over, we head outside and really watch their free spirit shine...satisfy that spring fever.

This is a look only mom may recognize, I think he has the CUTEST little pout...love it! ...

This is a favorite time of year for many mud-loving children!

Beaners Central...a really cool concert coffeehouse. Have you been there? Of course you have! Prints for the "strength.love.compassion." project are on display there right now! Grab some carrot cake, a cup of chai and check it out.

Loft...a relaxed, child-friendly meeting space, located conveniently downtown. Check out prints, albums and products, set up a consultation or place your order. The loft is open by appointment ...or by chance. Give me a shout if you would like to stop by, I would love that.

A series of prints are on display in the Hunter Building (31 W. Superior St.), on the upper level. More prints will be added mid-April.

Here's a fabulous little girl who is going to grow up and spread enormous amounts of cheer into the world. She is a very special little girl with so much wisdom. She's 100% heart. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to photograph her.

The Fog

It's still as beautiful as the day I brought it home. I find my eyes drawn to this work, always peeking and staring in wonder and admiration. This indescribable oil on canvas tugs at my mommy heart strings. This priceless artwork was painted with love by Sarah Brokke Erickson, an uber talented artist, not to mention one of the sweetest people I have ever met.

We are starting to be treated with longer stretches of daylight, what a treat! It appears that we are coming out of the winter slump. Hooray!

The February website calendar has been updated (thank you for the reminder Rita!).

I also want to announce that limited edition model sessions for children ages birth to 12 years will be held downtown Duluth on March 15th & 16th 2008! If you are looking to update your child's portfolio, this is a great opportunity to do that without booking an entire session. Inquire for details.

Now, who couldn't use a little laughter now and then? It's a great way to beat those winter blues!

Newly Inspired

I'm back from a wonderful workshop, retreat and mini vacation in Orlando (yes, the weather was gorgeous!). The adventure was like an Oreo with all the fun smooshed in the middle. I arrived with air sickness and ended with air sickness combined with a mean 48 hour stomach bug. But in between those grumpy little spells was complete JOY! And today, I got out of the house and selfishly treated myself to some new hot jeans at maurices...so I'm ok with the frigid air for now. I want to share with you some images from the weekend, taken downtown Orlando...which could easily be mistaken for downtown Duluth (although not in January)...

Maybe after seeing all these boys with long locks, my mom will stop bugging me to cut my own little boys blonde curls. Ha! It's worth a try!

I missed the ENTIRE month of December blogging! Where did the time go!? For all of my wonderful clients...thank you for making all of my dreams become a reality. 2007 was an amazing year, looking back, I'm just in awe at all of the wonderful people thatI have met. Each an every one has left an impression on me. It has been such an honor to work with all of you!! Really!! Thank you!!!

I have soooo much to share...I'll start with a beautiful December wedding. It was coooooooold outside, just like their outdoor engagement session a year ago, but soooo much loving warmth in this beautiful couple. The couple had a candle light ceremony at Concordia Lutheran with a festive reception at the stunning Greysolon Plaza Ballroom

These two little guys enjoyed staying cozy in their home. I played trucks with big brother, chased him around and we chatted about the sounds animals make. He's a smart little boy! Of course we have some shots showing their enormous smiles, but who doesn't love "the look"...
